As a business committed to sustainability, we encourage our customers to consider the environmental benefits of recycling our products at the end of their usable life. Unlike single-use plastics, these durable products provide long-term value, but responsible disposal is important to minimising environmental impact.

Why Recycle Rubber and Plastic Matting?

  • It can be profitable. Recent years have seen substantial increases in the price of the raw materials of plastic production, which has increasingly turned plastic waste into a valuable commodity. As such, recycling companies may be willing to pay for certain types of rubber and plastic waste.
  • Reducing Landfill Waste. Every year, millions of tonnes of plastic and rubber waste end up in landfills. Repurposing or recycling these materials helps reduce the strain on waste management systems and conserves valuable space in landfills.
  • Conserving Natural Resources. Rubber and plastic production requires raw materials such as petroleum and natural rubber. Recycling helps reduce the demand for virgin materials, conserving resources and lowering the industry's broader environmental impact.
  • Lowering Greenhouse Gas Emissions. The process of producing and refining virgin materials from petroleum generates significant carbon emissions. By recycling, we can cut down on the energy-intensive processes involved in production and refining, thereby reducing overall carbon emissions.
  • Supporting the Circular Economy. Recycling allows materials to be reprocessed into new products, reducing waste and promoting a sustainable cycle of use and reuse. Many recycled plastics and rubbers can be repurposed into new matting, flooring, outdoor furniture and industrial products.
  • Economic and Employment Benefits. The recycling industry supports job creation and economic growth. By choosing to recycle, businesses and consumers contribute to a growing sector that provides employment in collection, processing, and remanufacturing industries.

How to Recycle Rubber and Plastic Matting

  • Repurposing for Other Uses. Instead of disposal, first consider alternative uses such as playground surfacing, gym flooring, industrial applications, to cover muddy areas in the garden or lay in front of workbenches in the garage, workshop or shed.
  • Manufacturer Take-Back Programs. Some manufacturers offer collection programs for old matting, ensuring it is recycled properly. Please contact us and we will arrange this where possible.
  • Check with Local Recycling Centres. Most council-run recycling centers will accept rubber and plastic matting in small or DIY quantities, although anything considered trade waste might be charged for. Please consult your nearest facility to confirm they will accept your waste.
  • Recycling Companies. These companies sometimes have drop-off facilities. If there is a large quantity of waste they may also offer to collect it. Please contact them directly to enquire about this.
